open contacts, tap menu key , then contacts to display. now you can play with that.
what i did was to save all my contacts to my gmail account and only display that.
also you can try this: go to menu - settings - only display contacts with a phone number
    good luck

I was having this trouble too, I was unable to join my contacts eg phone numbers and facebook etc, and I was not able to add extra numbers to a contact such as home phone and mobile.
Then I realised that all my contacts has been saved to my sim from my previous phone.

What you need to do is copy all of your contacts from your SIM to your phone, (you do this is the contacts menu by pressing import/export button). then you need to just display your phone contacts rather than your sim contacts. The phone will then allow you to join all of your contacts to one account.

This worked for me, good luck.

I pulled my hair out for a couple of weeks with a similar issue with my Galaxy S4. Problem was the Satechi Soundfly View would Bluetooth Sync my Contacts, but would only display about 50% of them. Blamed it on either the update of Kies and/or the Soundfly and/or the phone update. Really none of them, but kind of . . . .

Called/wrote Satechi (Great company; Great products; Great support). They sent me a new Soundfly but the problem was not solved.

Called/chatted with Samsung (Great company; Great products; Great support). They kind of threw their hands up but suggested I Export the contacts from the SD card to the Device. Problem not solved.

Called/chatted with AT&T (Great company; Great products; Great support). They also threw their hands up and suggested Power Cycling the S4. Problem not solved.

So, as I sat a fiddled with the phone for awhile and Exported the Contacts (again) from the SD card to the Device thinking it had no worked - as when I look through Windows Explorer, the Contacts are still listed in My Computer\SAMSUNG-SGH-I337\Card - Contacts.vcf

Then, quite by Trial-and-Error I went into the Contacts and noted that the Link section of the individual contact showed 5 and sometimes 6 'chain links'. When I tapped on one of them they displayed the individual Contact 5 and sometimes 6 times. I tapped the (-) sign on the right and deleted them one by one, as each contained the exact same information. Did this for all 200+ contacts [X 5 or 6 = 1,000+] and about wore my finger out

Turns out that Mary Jo E was pretty much spot on. When I originally Imported everything from my iPhone(y) through Kies, it worked perfectly. Then when I Exported my Contacts to the SD card to create Device storage space, it created a Link - though I did not know it had created a link. Then when I Exported them back to the Device (per tech support suggestions) it created another Link and it goes on and on and on and on.

Removing all the Duplicate Contacts solved the problem. I am back in business on the Soundfly and happy as a clam
    I traded in my iPhone(y) & got a real phone - a Samsung Galaxy S4

You can only say that so many times, especially if they didn't solve the problem.

But it does remind me of a funny story a customer told me once about Apple support. He couldn't stop raving about the service and support and said the support person would have literally spent days on the phone with him to solve the problem. The end result was that the tech suggested he wipe the system and start all over. Still trying to figure out how that was so great.

But it's great you solved the problem.

Current versions of Android don't support Flash player, try Puffin or Flashfox as an alternative browser.

Factory reset solves over 30% of reported issues, rebooting solves 50%.
The balance is the fun part. (quoted from a friend who works for the Geek Squad WRT phones and tablets).

There is an app called Duplicate Finder in Play Store which you can use it to remove duplicate android contacts. P.S. I found out the contact merge options on the latest Galaxy S7. So this is no longer an issue.

The Problem can be because you have configured multiple accounts with your Phone and each one of these has the contact data.

Go to Contacts > Menu > Contacts to Display
Here select the accounts, the contacts of which you want to be displayed.

Another way would be to create an Excel sheet of all your contacts and then upload it with a name in Gmail. By so, you may You may merge the contacts on your Android phone. Enable only this list contacts to be displayed in the Contacts application.
