Tutorial: boot S4 in safe mode

The safe mode feature is not new to us. In fact, it is the one of the ways you can troubleshoot your PC from bugs and annoying softwares. Well, the same feature is also available in your Samsung Galaxy S4 Android phone. Android phones have a secret Safe mode, lets see how to run Safe mode on Galaxy S4 or come out of Android Safe mode on Galaxy S4.

Here are some simple steps that can help you boot your S4 in the safe mode:

    1. Switch off your phone completely.

    2. Power it on again.
    3. Now continuously keep pressing the left key.
    4. Keep pressing the key until the boot is complete and the home screen appears.

Thatís it! You phone is now successfully booted in safe mode. You will see a Safe Mode label on the left bottom on screen at all times. This reminds you that the phone is running in safe mode.

Please remember that only factory installed apps appear in safe mode. The apps you installed after purchase donít appear in this mode. Itís simple now; the app which is malfunctioning or has a bug can be deleted easily. Simply goto application manager, identify the app and delete it completely.

To return to normal mode, just switch of the phone and let it restart by itself. Do not press key during the restart and wait till the home screen is back.

Nice write up, especially useful for seeing if one of your apps is misbehaving.

While rebooting, I tapped on the Menu key (the key to the left of the Home button) numerous times and my phone went into Safe Mode.

Thereafter, I went into Application Manager. Is one given some type of indication there's a problem or bug with a particular app?

To exit Safe Mode, I merely pressed and held the Power button, clicked on Restart, and followed the prompt.

This method must be for the 95xx versions of the S4 phone. It does not work for the i545.
To boot into Safe Mode on the i545 is similar, but doesn't require tapping the Left Soft Key (menu key).

    1. Power the phone off completely.
    2. Press the power key to turn it back on.
    3. When your carrier's logo appears (Verizon, Sprint, AT&T, etc)
hold the menu key until you see "Safe Mode" displayed in the bottom left corner of the screen.

Note: This does not allow you to remove pre-installed apps commonly known as bloatware.
You can go to Menu > Settings > More > Application Manager > ALL tab and uninstall *some* of the pre-installed programs (I was able to remove Kindle Books) by tapping on the app in the list and tapping the Trun Off button, but you can not remove them all. Trust me I tried several of them!

3rd party apps and widgets will not display or work in Safe Mode.

To exit safe mode hold the power button and select restart.

I am not sure what all you can do in safe mode, yet. I will edit this post when I find things we can't do in the regular mode.
