Swipe Lock: I love it, but how do I stop the phone from automatically locking?

    Hi Galaxy S4 users!

Firstly, thank you in advance for your help.

I love my new Galaxy S4, and i especially LOVE the swipe-lock feature, but I don't like that the phone automatically locks after 30 seconds, so I turned off auto-locking in my settings. But now when I manually lock the phone, the phone no longer utilizes my beloved swipe-lock Instead it locks the phone in a very non-secure way, which unlocks too easily with the touch of any button and causes me to pocket dial my friends constantly.

Question: How do I continue to use the swipe-lock feature which I love, without the phone annoyingly auto-lock after 30 seconds of inactivity? I've googled this to oblivion with no luck, so I thought I'd try this forum.

Alternatively, if that's not possible: What is a good swipe-locking app that you could recommend? I've tried 3 free apps, but none of them seem to have a swipe unlocking feature.

    Much obliged,
    Swipe-less in Seattle

    Welcome to the forum

Not 100% certain this is going to help as I'm equally not certain I totally understand the problem. The is a screen time out adjustment, 30 seconds is the default but can be adjusted. Also there is a setting that will keep the screen on so long as you're looking at it. Are either of those in the neighborhood of what the issue is?

I appreciate the help, but it doesn't exactly answer my question.

To re-phrase, how can I enable the screen to time-out after 30 seconds, but NOT automatically lock? Furthermore, I want to continue using samsung's swipe-lock feature to MANUALLY lock the phone.

    Thank you again!

to enable the screen to timeout after 30 seconds, go to display settings and change screen timeout to anything >30 seconds. to enable swipe, go to lock screen settings and change your screen lock to swipe. the only way i can think of to get your screen to not lock after timing out is to select none for screen lock.

edit: are you asking if the phone can swipe to lock when you turn your screen off with the power button, but lock to none when your screen times out? and do you have smart stay enabled?

Macuser: You nailed it. Yes, that is what I am asking. Is it possible?

I do not have smart stay enabled at this time.

i dont think that's possible. maybe if you root? if you have smart stay enabled, your screen won't timeout if you're looking at the screen. it can be long pressed in the pull down window.

Not sure that I understand either, but if it helps.... the display timeout and the lock timeout are not the same.

Hi Beer Goggles - That is interesitng. Right now whenever my screen times out, it automatically locks. I want to save battery by allowing the screen to time-out, but I don't want to have to annoyingly unlock it every time I pick it back up. Any thoughts on how to turn off auto-locking?

    Thanks!
