Why is my battery draining when phone isn't being used?

my screen is set to auto brightness
all the extra features are turned off (gps, screen gesture, air view...etc.)
    wifi is off
    phone on power saving mode
turned off auto sync for all counts

I've done all that and my battery is draining even when I don't use the phone. 80% battery lasts me 4.5 hours. Battery runs out within 6 hours even if didn't use it- no web search, games.. etc. What do I do?

If you hold the power switch and choose "power off" from the pop-up menu, your battery draining problem will be solved.

Edgar, Thomas is right, turning off your S4 will save battery, but the battery should definitely last more than 6 hours not using it, especially with the way you have configured your device! I would go to settings>Battery and see what's eating it up. If that doesn't give you some answers, you might try some third party battery apps, like GSam Battery Monitor. You could also try apps like Easy Battery Saver, which will monitor your battery.

    Welcome to the forum
You have an underlying problem that needs to be solved. Use the suggestions from the previous post to determine what is using the battery. With all those items ON I still see less than 4% battery loss overnight. Something is seriously wrong and needs to be found, or go for a factory reset.

I had a similar problem. I noticed that my SD card was spontaneously unmounting and remounting and checking for errors, and the processor would get hot, almost too hot to touch. I took the card out and had normal battery use and no heat. Reinsert it and watched my battery drain almost before my eyes.

So, I bought a new SD card and haven't had the problem since. (but - it's only been two days!). When I put the old card into the computer to back it up, it also would randomly dismount. I do wonder if the heat of the processor when the last Verizon update installed damaged the card. It seems silly to have a powerful processor that you can't use because of the heat and resulting damage to the rest of the phone.

Yes, a bad or corrupt SD card can cause serious drain on the battery.
