How can I play music through my car's USB aux?

Hi, I have a USB and a 3.5mm aux input in the car stereo. If I plug my S4 into the USB it won't recognise any music I have on the phone. I have music on the phone and on the SD card. It plays fine through the 3.5mm aux, but then that's basically just the equivalent of playing through some headphones. Is there any way to play music through the USB?

Do you have aftermarket head unit or is it stock? What kind of car/year/model is it?

The USB inputs are generally for dedicated mp3 players, ipods, memory sticks etc. They usually won't recognize a phone.

It's a 2013 Honda Jazz with the factory fitted stereo. The owners manual says it will play music from an Iphone or a memory stick.

Hello Bob..i have the same problem. Apparently your car needs to have the option to play music with smart phones through USB. Normally your USB interface will only work with Mp3 players including the iphone since iphone and ipod are so similar.

Which would explain why my cars USB doesn't even recognise the phone
Its only been 3 weeks with my s4 and virtually every day I'm regretting not getting an iPhone 5

Surely someone can find an app to solve this problem in the near future

If I remember correctly, a part of the problem is the storage holding the music can't be mounted as mass storage - i.e. a usb stick. Some after market OEMs will provide an app to help, but it also acts as the music player which is annoying. Honestly, there's not a great solution on Android for this - this is one area where the iPhone will likely always excel due to its proprietary drivers and because it's basically an iPod with a smartphone around it.

hi, I have an Audi A4 s-line 2010 and I connect via a cable that connects to a port in my glove box. I then install a usb cable into that cable and my S4 onto that, but I get a notification saying there are no playable songs on the device. My old Iphone connected directly into the port in the glove box (No usb needed) and played mp3's no problem. Can anyone help with this problem?

Odds are the port is designed for Apple products or standalone music players. Does the car have an aux port (3.5mm headphone jack)?
