    Smart Switch won't move Contacts

    Hi All,

New user here. I backed up my iPhones to iTunes, and used Samsung Smart Switch to restore to my S4. Everything transferred over fine except no Contacts - zip, none. I've verified that All Contacts is checked in Contacts, and still all I get it ME and AT&T. Tried fresh backup of iPhone - no bueno. Smart Switch tells me the Contacts were transferred, but nothing happens. I don't have a Google account, and no longer have service with my iPhone.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

May not be what you want to hear, but you essentially need a Google account to own an android. The easiest way to do this would be to sign up with Google, use wifi to sync your iPhone contacts to Google, then sign in to Google on your new phone and your contacts will magically appear.

Thanks for the quick response! And you are absolutely right - that's not what I wanted to hear :-) So the 'Smart Switch' name is a euphemism eh? I read the thread on how to do this process, so I guess I'll have to go that route. Sounds suspiciously apple-like though...

Nobody knows what the deal with smart switch is. It works great for most, others not so much. Luck of the draw I guess. Anyway, once you get used to Gmail and Google in general, it really is pleasant to use day to day. Things like Google Now are fantastic if you can handle the slight battery drain. And the automatic backing up and syncing of contacts is a MAJOR hassle saver when you need it.

Welcome to Android, and our forum.

Thanks Jetmech, unfortunately I can't sync contacts with Google. Apparently gMail no longer allows connection as an Exchange server to push data, and there is no option for "Contacts" in the gMail account setup for iOS7. And now, for some reason, I can't even get Samsung Smart Switch to connect with my S4. Kies is no problem, phones shows correctly in win explorer, but won't connect with smart switch (ver1.5). Tried new download of the software, different cables, phone reboots, computer reboots, zippo. Any other "hail Mary's" I can try before I start typing?

    Thanks.

Current versions of Android don't support Flash player, try Puffin or Flashfox as an alternative browser.

If you want to transfer, (not sync) the contacts from Outlook you can export your addressbook from Outlook to a VCF format then import into Google.

If you want to sync, there is a (not free) program called gSyncit that will sync EVERYTHING to and G from Outlook.

+1 on @Leeshor advice. Once the contacts are imported to Google then you sign in on your phone, they should start showing up in your devices address book.

Also, try this yet? Just make sure you've got a backup of your contacts first.

    iOS: Syncing with Google Contacts
    Hi,

I tried that but it didn't work. Udated iphone to iOS7, that gave me the "Google" option in new accounts. Set it up, turned Contacts sync on, opened the Contacts app, and still nothing syncs with Google/gMail. Not on phone, not on PC. Tried Leeshor's first tip, no help either, and I'm not trying to sync or transfer anything from Outlook so I don't know that gSyncit is of any use to me. At this point, after wasting an entire day trying to make this work, I'm just going to type the info in via Kies. I love my GTab 7 & 8, but I'm thinking Android for phone was a mistake (much as I loathe iTunes). Thanks,

    Keith
