"Hide item" option disappeared from gallery after Lollipop

The option to hide albums or images in the gallery disappeared when the Lollipop update happened. I've been trying sporadically to find it again since with no luck. I've tried google and found no answers. Now I've ended up here.
It's extremely frustrating when whoever implements these changes forces in a shitty new OS that breaks or removes multiple different functions.
My albums that were hidden before the update are still hidden, and I can still find them with the "show hidden items" option and unhide them if I want with the "unhide item" once the hidden items are shown.
But there is no way I can determine to hide new items, which is extremely irritating.
Does anyone know how I can fix this? Why the functionality was removed, or if it was just moved, then to where? Do I need to download an app or something to do it now since the Lollipop update?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Welcome to the forum

For any folder you want hidden from Gallery place an empty file in that folder with the name .nomedia

    It's preceded with a period.

How do you just place an empty file in that folder? I agree with gseq89 about the lack of thought and repercussions downstream when functionality that is being used because it was put there for a reason is suddenly taken out for an update.

The best way to create that file would be in a notepad type of app. Start the app, safe the empty file as .nomedia with no extension then move it to the folder you want hidden from Gallery. Any updates should not remove that file but file managers can still see the files in that folder.
