    SIM Unlock for free!

Just caught this SIM unlock mod. Head here to check it out.

I did this on my device, but I don't have another SIM to test it.

looks like a lot more work than just rooting (which took less than 2 minutes and only 1 or 2 keystrokes). it does loads more AND it unlocks your phone at the same time, lol. i rooted my S4 last evening and couldn't believe how simple and quick it was to do it. just another option.

I was not aware that just rooting would unlock the SIM. Has anyone tested that?

Rooting doesn't unlock the sim. In some cases you have to unlock the bootloader in order to root, but unlocking the bootloader is different than unlocking the sim.

Thank you for your clarification. I've been rooting since Eclair and never experienced a SIM unlock in the process.

You would then have the ability to go from, say, AT&T to T-Mobile (both being GSM carriers). I'm not sure how it would work with a CDMA device, or if it's even possible.

In the UK most providers offer this service free. I got my iPhone 4 unlocked from O2 and just this morning got my S4 unlocked also all free of charge with O2 I just had to phone them up and request it. It's obviously different in the US which kind of sucks for you guys over the pond.
