Keyboard missing

Hello, I am hoping some-one can help. I bought a Galaxy 4 last week and somehow the keyboard on Messaging has disappeared. I can only get symbols and even the little microphone so I could talk the message has disappeared too. Don't know what I pressed to do this, have searched all settings etc. and cannot bring the keyboard back.
Hoping some-one can tell me what to do. Thanks.

I think in you messaging there is a little icon for the mic press and hold that should give you the option to bring keyboard back.

Hello and welcome to the forum!

If Miller's suggestion does not work, you could also try to clear cache / data in the apps manager in system settings - this would clear your keyboard settings and restore to default...good luck!

Thanks for the suggestion - the other problem I have is that the mic icon has disappeared too so I can't even speak the text. Any ideas on how to retrieve it?? Cheers.

Hi, I couldn't try Miller's suggestion and have been trying to work out yours. I couldn't locate the apps manager in system setting or is that the reset to default factory settings where I lose all my data already there??

go to settings, more tab, application manager, all tab, find and open samsung keyboard and clear data.

I'm sorry I misread the OP I thought the mic icon was still there.

instead of clearing data, you can try going to settings, my device tab, language and input, select the gear icon next to the keyboard, scroll down and select 'reset settings'.

if you already cleared data, you'll need to redo all of your keyboard settings, including predictive text (long press predictive text for options)

Just wanted to thank everyone for their suggestions on bringing back the keyboard etc. It turned out to be more complicated than I thought and I had to go back to the store to have it rectified. Even two of the staff there had a problem fixing it - took them about 10 mins but it is all OK now and I had them look at another few items too. Cheers.

Hi womantraveller, I have the same problem. Can you tell me how to fix it? I did everything that people said above but it doesn't work. =(
