You might try formatting it on your PC with sdcard formatter in fat32. I've had a phone in the past that had to have the sdcard formatted on the PC instead of the phone.

Do you have data on the sd card? Meaning is this card coming from a previous device? Most new sd card these days must be formatted before using. You can do it right through your phone, then you're good to go. If it has data on it, then I'm not really sure why you're getting that message. You could always copy the contents onto your pc, reformat the card and then reload the data back onto the card.

Yes i have data on the card.It also seems that i have lost all(most) of my pics and videos on card. The sd was from another phone and was no where near full.Thats why i dont understand why i need to format it?It has been working fine in new phone for weeks.I ran avast virus scanner on phone and nothing came up.

My guess is that the card is corrupted, at the minimum, and possibly faulty. They don't last forever. Get what you can onto a PC or into the cloud and format it.

Did you try reformatting it yet? Even if it is corrupted, doesn't necessarily mean it's bad. Try reformatting, if anything you'll have a spare sd card which will always come in handy.

I would try putting the card in another device (PC or old phone) to see if it recognizes it. If so, copy any important files off of it.

If you use a PC, it may come up that there are errors and it needs to scan and correct the errors. THis may or may not fix it for you.
