Does anyone know why this is? How can I get the blue arrow app back?
it's very simple. just open the system mgr, by pulling down the notification bar on the top of the screen,

Tap on the Gear icon on the top right

    tap "More"

    Tap Application Manager

select "All" it may be partially hidden, just tap "running" and you'll be able to see "All" then tap on "All"

Scroll way down (it's alphabetically arranged) till you see Maps, and tap on it
next to Force Stop you will see remove update or uninstall update

    tap on that
that is all! ! the Nav icon will be back and it will come back like it was before.

    HOWEVER:
google will automatically "update" the Map app, and cause the same problem!

to prevent it from happening, open the Market app

tap the menu button (far left on the bottom below the screen) and remove the check from Auto-update apps

That CURES the problem, however you will have to open the market app every so often, and update stuff manually till Google fixes the problem

be careful not to select update all cause it will also update maps! (or you can update all an then uninstall the map update again)
I have not done it that way, as one of my friends did, and now there is no uninstall updates option for his maps app!

Good luck, and have a great day!

    Aloha!

It's not a 'problem' to be fixed. The app has just integrated invoking it's sub functions into the main app.

Yes, that's like cutting off your arm because you have a hang-nail.
